Fairy's are very active, but they're also very creative.
Try some of these writing activities to show your creative side too!

Environmental Alphabet:
Print a large letter A. Beside this letter, write a word that starts with the letter A and is related to The Fairy Chronicles, the environment or is something the fairies would like. The Brownies should also add a fact or idea about this word. Do the same thing for all twenty-six letters of the alphabet.
*Note: This activity can be completed alone or in groups.

A Fairy’s Wish for the World:
Have each Brownie pretend she is a fairy from The Fairy Chronicles and write a letter to someone who lives in our world today describing what you wish he or she was doing differently so that the environment would be in better shape. The Brownies can use examples from the books of environmentally destructive actions, or simply imagine what the fairies would be concerned about. The Brownies should then make sure to explain what needs to be done differently to help the earth and the environment stay healthy.

A Fairy’s Thank-You Note:
Choose a creature from The Fairy Chronicles whose actions benefit you or the environment in some way. The Brownies can choose any character, including Marigold, a garden gnome, etc. Have the girls write a note to this creature in which she will describe what it does and thank it for helping. For example, the Brownies might write a note to a honey bee thanking it for pollinating fruit tree blossoms so that you will have crisp, juicy apples to eat.

Haiku:
A haiku is an unrhymed Japanese poem. It consists of three lines containing five, seven, and five syllables. A haiku is usually light and delicate in feeling and is most often written about something lovely in nature. In The Fairy Chronicles, The Princess of Haiku is the Spirit of Simplicity and the source of all simple pleasure on earth.
In the sky so blue
Wisps of clouds float gently by
Shading out the sun.
Bird lands on my lawn,
Gather twigs and blades of grass,
Proudly builds her nest.

FAIRY CHRONICLES SIMPLE PLEASURES:
Using the fairies in Spiderwort and the Princess of Haiku as guides, Brownies should try to come up with their own simple pleasures. Instead of simply creating a list, the Brownies should also write an explanation of how this activity is better for the environment than another activity she could be participating in.
Spiderwort’s List of Simple Pleasures:
- Fly a kite.
- Blow bubbles. Make bubble blowing solution from soap and water.
- Play string games like cat’s cradle.
- Put on a play in the backyard with your friends.
- Draw sidewalk or driveway chalk pictures!
