A Fairy Clean-Up Treasure Hunt

With your troop, conduct a clean-up treasure hunt on your school grounds.  Try to find as many items from the list as you can.  The group with the most items from the list is the winner!  Not only will you have fun looking for the items listed, but you will pick up litter as well!


What you need:

  1. A Brownie troop to divide into teams
  2. Two trash bags for each team
  3. Work gloves to protect all hands involved
  4. Five sturdy boxes labeled glass, metal, paper, plastic, and organic
  5. At least one copy of the Wanted List for each team


What you do:

  1. Divide the troop into teams of two or more.
  2. Give each team two trash bags, gloves and a copy of the Wanted List.
  3. Set a time limit.
  4. Spread out and search for the items on the list.
  5. As you find items, check them off the list, and carefully pick them up and place them in one of the bags.
  6. Put any unlisted litter you find in the other bag.
  7. When time is up, see which team has found the largest number of listed items and declare this team the winner.
  8. Sort all of the litter into the labeled boxes.
  9. Dispose of this litter properly.  Return, reuse, or recycle what you can.  Discard the rest by placing it in a garbage can or trash bin.

  1. A ballpoint pen
  2. A bottle cap
  3. A broken crayon
  4. A candy wrapper
  5. A lunch bag
  6. A paper clip
  7. A pencil
  8. Notebook paper
  9. A rubber band
  10. Something glass
  11. Something metal
  12. Something plastic
  13. Something round
  14. Something square
  15. A leaf or a twig
  16. A feather (like a fairy wand)
  17. A Marigold flower
  18. A Spider web
  19. A squirrel
  20. A firefly
  21. A dragonfly
  22. A Thistle flower

Make sure if the Brownies find objects from the list that are living, they write down where they saw the object and then leave it where it is!
